Handout for Parents & Students: High School vs. College
EKU Academic Readiness & Developmental Education programs help students achieve academic success and degree completion. Classes, programs, and mentoring initiatives provide students with opportunities for skill development designed to improve academic aptitude in writing, reading, and mathematics, as well as social skills, success strategies, and financial management strategies for college students.
The program includes the following courses through the Departments of English & Theatre and Mathematics & Statistics:
Academic Readiness staff also coordinate the Summer and Fall Eastern Bridge programs. These high school-to-college transition programs are open to all new, first-time freshmen but are designed specifically to address the needs of students who do not achieve benchmark scores in writing, reading, or math, or who have a cumulative high school GPA that that encompasses a special admission category. Students admitted an Eastern Bridge program study together to form a collaborative learning community characterized by mutual assistance, one-to-one encouragement, and collaboration with a number of campus and community partners.
The Eastern Bridge program has been on the Eastern Kentucky University campus since 1998. It has helped hundreds of students remediate college readiness courses, build academic and social skills, and begin the journey to becoming a college graduate!
